REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Jonathan Balagot 4/25/2021 9:50 AMI do not practice self care very often, but I will start by exercising daily, prep healthy meals, choose healthier options in the dining room, and drink more water by cutting out pop. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Engage In Active ListeningWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?
Jonathan Balagot 4/25/2021 6:45 AMIt gives you an opportunity to listen to a new perspective and see arguments/points for a different point of view. It did not always change my opinion on the topic but opened up my perspective. -
Jonathan Balagot 4/24/2021 8:26 AMImproved a local bus stop today with some Trader Joe’s flowers! 🌼 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Improve a Bus StopIn what ways can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Jonathan Balagot 4/24/2021 8:25 AMBy adding information to bus stops of gas/emission savings by carpooling rather than driving separately. Either by, Increasing bus fare, adding donation options, or including add ons to transit passes to offset carbon emissions -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Food LifestyleMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Jonathan Balagot 4/24/2021 7:12 AMI agree on the point of if we as a person and as a community, can educate ourselves and implement ways to make better food choices, we can improve our lives in the long run by making sustainable lifestyle choices. -
Jonathan Balagot 4/23/2021 11:17 AMI did not know a carbon offset was a thing before this challenge. I purchased a carbon offset for my upcoming summer vacation to help this cause:
SOUTHERN CARDAMOM REDD+ PROJECT
This initiative will protect a critical part of the Cardamom Mountains Rainforest, one of the most important conservation locations on the planet. The Project will support 21 villages in an effort to nurture biodiversity and create alternative livelihoods-
Rachel Schauer 4/24/2021 5:10 PMI am so glad you were able to learn about carbon offsets through this challenge!

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Enjoy the Sunrise/SunsetFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
Jonathan Balagot 4/23/2021 11:07 AMI agree with this statement as enjoying even small parts of nature like sunrise or sunset can help to establish a deeper, spiritual relationship with earth and nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Jonathan Balagot 4/22/2021 4:06 PMedible portions can be used in dishes while inedible portions such as skins, tops/bottoms, can be used for stocks, or even growing a new edible portion (ex: putting the end of a green onion in water, and growing a new, edible green onion) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Less Screen TimeWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Jonathan Balagot 4/22/2021 4:03 PMChoosing to spend time with friends and family that I enjoy spending time with made this task much easier.
