Lorena's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 4 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Create Your Own Action
Try Carpooling
I will commute by carpool 13 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 3.76 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Simplicity
Disconnect from Email
I will disconnect from my email when not at work or school, using my personal time for endeavors that help me live out my values.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Community
Help Others
I will offer to help 2 person(s) who are in need each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 2 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Community
Talk To My Friends and Classmates
I will decide which social or environmental issue in my community is most important to me and tell 1 friends and/or classmates each day about the issue.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Waste
Launch a Recycling Program
I will start a recycling program at my workplace, dorm, or elsewhere on campus.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCreate Your Own Action Try CarpoolingWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety.
Lorena Bazaldúa 11/02/2018 9:47 AMPara ir a una cafetería, mis amigas y yo decidimos irnos todas en un mismo coche, para reducir el impacto del ambiente, además de que los gastos se reducen :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Disconnect from EmailNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
Lorena Bazaldúa 10/30/2018 2:21 PMBy only checking my email at specific times, instead of everyday, I feel a little urge to see it to check if a teacher has sent me some home work. However, I feel a little more free to use that time into other things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Talk To My Friends and ClassmatesWhat makes you feel connected to your campus, your neighbors, or another kind of community in your life?
Lorena Bazaldúa 10/27/2018 2:09 PMI started with my brother, telling him the importance of making small changes to sustentability, by explaining to him the current situation of our planet and how it's time to do something. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Lorena Bazaldúa 10/27/2018 12:50 PMFor take out, besides taking my own containers, I ask for them not to send me disposable knives, forks and spoons, instead, I have my own that I use everytime I need them to, and wash them afterwards to use them again. Also, I started not asking for a straw every time I have something to drink at a restaurant -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Lorena Bazaldúa 10/27/2018 12:46 PMSince I order food at the cafeteria 5 times a week to go, I realised that, in a month, I was throwing away 40 disposable plates (20 for soup and 20 for your regular food)! And I only used them for 25 minutes! That's why now, I bought 2 new reusable plates, that I can take to the cafeteria, have them put my food there, clean after use and use them again the next day :)
