Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Contaminating the water with toxins hurts the water supply. Also, using too much water lessens the supply. I can help the water system by using less water. I can also be more mindful about my water supply and where I get it. For example, plastic bottles, well water, etc.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Erin Berry's avatar
    Erin Berry 8/02/2021 7:29 AM
I can take my exercise outdoors to be in nature. I can take a run outside or stretch outside if it is a nice day. I can also exercise with friends to socialize more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Use Reusable Bottles
What are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?

    Erin Berry's avatar
    Erin Berry 8/02/2021 7:20 AM
Hydrating, showering, cleaning, and many other benefits.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

It is easier to buy a water bottle where ever I am instead of carrying a reusable one with me that I might lose. I can commit to reusable water bottles by remembering to carry it with me like I would a purse or wallet.

The Eco challenge is going well! I cannot believe how easy some of the tasks are to do. This leads me to believe that maybe I can adapt to these actions past the challenge.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Choose Two-Sided Printing
Choosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?

    Erin Berry's avatar
    Erin Berry 7/27/2021 6:11 AM
I can help others print double-sided by reminding them of the setting. Many times it is easier to just use the setting already on the printer instead of adjusting it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

    Erin Berry 7/27/2021 6:10 AM
It is hard for me to switch because I work at a restaurant where there a single-use plastic cups so it is easier to grab one of those instead of bringing my own,
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Zero-Waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?

    Erin Berry's avatar
    Erin Berry 7/25/2021 5:43 PM
There are a lot of great websites that can help me use the entire vegetable. Also, I can make several meals if I get creative enough which could be a fun challenge.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Erin Berry's avatar
    Erin Berry 7/25/2021 5:41 PM
I hope to save the money that I saved. I think that it will come in handy one day. This is great because I helped the environment and saved money for myself.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Erin Berry's avatar
    Erin Berry 7/21/2021 11:18 AM
I can unplug unused devices. I can also reduce the amount that I use certain appliances. I can make sure that lights are turned off when I leave the house.
