Havah Blais 12/13/2018 8:46 AMI really like talking to other people in my community because I think that it helps me better understand my own affects and what is going on around me. When I get to help out other people, even if it's just baking bread or making hats for homeless people, it feels like I'm giving back a little with all of the luck I have been given. -

Havah Blais 11/24/2018 6:42 AMI love working with people I wouldn't normally see or talk to, and working in my community is very fulfilling for me. I worked on tiny house building in Putney with a small company and lit candles at a wilderness center in Brattleboro. -

What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Havah Blais 11/24/2018 6:32 AMThis inspired me to become a farmer, and I very much want to learn more about local, sustainable farming in my area. I had no idea there was so much math and business involved, which I think more people should come to understand. We have lost touch with how to make the things that keep us healthy and strong, and even seeing a bit of the process of where my food comes from was important for me. -
Havah Blais 11/23/2018 6:34 AMSome of these questions got me thinking about where exactly my trash goes, so I have decided that I want to visit a dump. It's important for me to understand where the things I throw away go, because too often I forget I am using a linear system on a finite planet. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Havah Blais 11/01/2018 2:40 PMI realized how hard zero waste cooking was when I looked in our fridge. Even vegetables we buy from the grocery store have plastic surrounding them! It makes me wonder why we think plastic is so necessary for food preparation- is it because we think it is somehow cleaner than having food loose or in another type of container? This was a very good challenge for me because it made me think about my impact in a way I do not usually notice. -
Havah Blais 10/28/2018 4:46 PMReading about all the ways I could effect my carbon foot print and spread awareness was inspiring to me, and showed me ways I could help that I had never thought about before. I am now interested in the zero waste movement and I just learned about a carbon offset, which was very interesting and made me think about the balance in all of our lives.
