Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

The next step would be recycling my shower water. And recycle rain water in the winter. I'm also working towards fixing any leaky fixtures in my home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    Morrow Botros 8/13/2020 11:39 AM
I feel great cutting down my sugar intake. I don't have that "crash" I would feel mid day!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

I would like to sleep for 8 hours every night. I found that not looking of being active on any type of electronics before bed has helped me fall asleep quicker

The tree stopped producing avocados last year. I'm hoping the compost will be a good fertilizer for it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

Mindful eating is more enjoyable. You can better taste your foods, with less distractions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

Reducing meat consumption will reduce the pressures on land use ans also land consumption.

I meant to say less pressure on land use and reduced water consumption, as meat require large amounts of fertilizers, fuel, and pesticides while releasing greenhouse gases.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I have a dying avocado tree. I'm going to use the compost as fertilizer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

I can power down my lap top when it's not in use. I can make sure I have a full load of laundry before running the washer and air dry cloth.
