Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Learn About Renewable EnergyWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Kate Butcher 10/20/2021 11:46 PMSeeing other people that I follow online inspire me to want to get more sustainable energy for my home. I am especially interested in solar and water power. -
Kate Butcher 10/20/2021 11:38 PMMy ecochallenges have been going really well! I hope to go to a small farm this week and maybe pick some veggies! (Like pumpkins or apples!) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Kate Butcher 10/20/2021 11:37 PMIf I forget my bag I either just carry it all out with me or I use a cart and then put it all in my trunk. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Kate Butcher 10/20/2021 11:36 PMWhenever my family can't or doesn't want to finish something (Like veggies and fruits) we cut it up into small pieces and give it to our pet chickens and they eat it right up! Then whatever is left over we throw in the compost bin.
I think once the compost is ready I will add it to my spring garden as fertilizer! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Kate Butcher 10/20/2021 11:31 PMI can go on walks/jogs with my dogs and my friends at the park! I also can go to the gym with some friends as well -

Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Kate Butcher 10/20/2021 11:29 PMI liked preserving berries and veggies by canning/pickling them this fall. -
