Andre Cantuniar 8/17/2020 10:10 PMBe ready for outages this week guys. Conserve energy wherever you can to help relieve stress on the grid!-
Professor Morrell 8/18/2020 1:59 PMThanks Andre - Im part of Ohm (encourage everyone to look into it) - I am powering down and leaving my house for 3 to 4 hours during peak periods to help the grid. Thanks to everyone for conserving energy and I hope you are spared from an outage!

Andre Cantuniar 8/13/2020 7:54 PMI just had a random idea. Why don't all new houses include a smart meter that not only gives standard info like temperature but a simple breakdown of what sources the electricity being used is sourced from? Like if you were to check at 5 pm, in San Diego it would probably be around 75% fossil fuel sourced. If you checked at 6 am, it would be more proportionately renewable-based. I think this could be implemented relatively quickly and would increase household resource awareness. If we wanted to get creative, we could even have a minute by minute counter of how many lbs of CO2 our household is emitting at any given time. This part might be controversial, but local energy providers could implement a surcharge based on how many hours a household is operating above a certain C02 per minute threshold. To not disproportionately affect lower-income households with more family members, there could be a surcharge tax break implemented if a family's total income is below a certain amount. Thoughts?-

Andre Cantuniar 8/11/2020 12:07 AMWent to Lowe's to pick up some more seeds today. All sold out. Apparently the home harvesting craze is on. Not sure if people are just bored at home because of COVID or if it's a trend that will stick long term. Hopefully, it's the latter. Everyone with a garden should be growing their own food nowadays. -
Andre Cantuniar 8/07/2020 2:05 AMI hit a slight speed bump in my quest to becoming a master harvester. My zucchini plant's leaves got ill from mildew so I had to pull most of them before it spread. Luckily the roots were not affected and the plant appears to be recovering and producing. Sometimes I forget how vulnerable these types of plants can be. If I fail to water and check on them for even a day, things can take a turn for the worst. 100 percent still worth the effort though! -
Andre Cantuniar 8/01/2020 10:34 PMI started watching this show on Netflix called Down to Earth. It's hosted by Zach Efron who travels to different countries around the world and focuses on some very interesting sustainability topics. I would definitely recommend it as it is highly relevant to what we are learning in this class. My favorite episodes so far were Iceland and Costa Rica.-
Professor Morrell 8/02/2020 8:48 PMIts so good! Im hoping to use it in future instances of this class. Glad you enjoy it! Iceland was my favorite too!

Andre Cantuniar 7/24/2020 12:07 AMEver since our module on the CO2 impact of food and food waste I have been consciously and subconsciously wanting to consume less meat. Especially red meat. Overall I feel better for it and intend to make it a lifestyle change moving forward.-
Professor Morrell 7/31/2020 11:48 AMProud of you!

Andre Cantuniar 7/18/2020 11:43 PMI finally pulled the trigger on investing in two 5-gallon bottles and a stand from Carlsbad Alkaline water. No more plastic bottles from here on out. It was well overdue but I am happy I did it. Also, the quality of the water from our local well is better than anything you can buy at the store.-
Professor Morrell 7/19/2020 8:33 PMAwesome! Its the best water!

Andre Cantuniar 7/12/2020 12:16 AMI harvested my seed planted spinach this week and I must say that, along with the zucchini I have grown, the vegetables I have eaten out of my back yard are some of the most delicious I have ever tried. There is something about the freshness of eating a vegetable right after you remove it from the soil that cannot be replicated with store-bought produce. I can't wait for my eggplant and cherub tomatoes to give.-
Professor Morrell 7/12/2020 7:51 PMThat is so exciting Andre - and you are so right!

Andre Cantuniar 6/27/2020 4:09 PMHarvested my first Zucchini and had it for dinner last night. Without a doubt the best zucchini I have ever had. You can practically taste the sustainability.-
Professor Morrell 6/30/2020 11:31 PMWow!!!! That looks delicious! You can totally taste the difference! Make some zucchini bread sometime this summer! :) *high five*

Andre Cantuniar 6/18/2020 7:33 PMI recently traded in my big V8 powered muscle car for a car that can run on e85 gasoline. If anyone in the Oceanside/Vista area drives a flex-fuel car, G&M off of Oceanside Blvd sells e85. Not only is it about a dollar cheaper per gallon, but it also decreases CO2 emissions by 30-40% compared to gasoline. Also, purchasing it supports American corn farmers as opposed to foreign oil conglomerates. Oh, and you get better HP as well.-
Professor Morrell 6/30/2020 11:34 PMThats awesome Andre! Thanks for the tip!
