Rachel's actions
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 1 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.
Health
Joyful Movement
I will spend 20 minutes doing an activity where I'm both moving my body and enjoying myself.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 2 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 4:02 PMI should walk more, especially to school since it's close by. Rochester isn't really made for walking, unfortunately. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Mulch the Base of Trees and PlantsWhere are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?
Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 3:52 PMThere is a little pond near my apartment. Runoff water can contaminate it and the natural habitats can be disturbed -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 3:50 PMClean up trash when you see it! Especially when you see it where it shouldn't be, like when you're in a walk -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 3:49 PMReduce by buying less, reuse with a water bottle, repair when things get broken like clothes that rip rather than get rid of it, repurpose can be the same for clothes, you can make something new out of old -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Organic IngredientsMany people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?
Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 3:48 PMWhile organic food isn't always available, it is good to try to eat as much organic food as you can -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 3:46 PMI have to clean my reusable water bottle often. Tap water isn't always clean so I do prefer filtered water. I personally like filtering tap water with a brita filter
