Suresh's actions
Health
Take Control
Both systemic and personal sustainability are important! I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 2 minutes researching environmental justice and environmental racism concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products
I will spend 2 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home or dorm room.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 2 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 2 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Health
Learn More about Food Apartheid
What can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Waste
Tour A Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 2 minute(s) touring (virtually or in person) a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about our local waste and waste recovery streams.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Launch a Recycling Program
I will start a recycling program at my workplace, dorm, or elsewhere on campus.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Waste
Carry my Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Suresh Choudhary 5/06/2019 5:25 AMMedicinal packaging in the form of plastic and aluminium blisters remains one of thetoughest materials to deal with. With many manufacturers moving away from traditional plastic pill bottles (which are easier to recycle), we're left with little choice but to pop them in the bin -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Suresh Choudhary 5/06/2019 5:24 AMOne of the simplest ways to decrease the amount of waste you produce is to use reusable bags while shopping. Instead of relying on your supermarket's plastic bags, bring your own cloth ones to pack up your items and tote them home. -

Suresh Choudhary 5/06/2019 5:24 AMIt's actually a well-defined process that can help you from problem definition to implementing solutions, according to Jeffrey Baumgartner -

Suresh Choudhary 5/06/2019 5:23 AMWe should always be surrounding ourselves with people with whom we can learn and grow. ... a while, there's something that you've heard me mention before: Anyone can be rich. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Suresh Choudhary 5/06/2019 5:22 AMPlastics like clothes hangers, grocery bags, and toys aren't always recyclable inyour curbside bin. Other things that aren't recyclable include Styrofoam, bubble wrap, dishes, and electronic cords. Check for facilities in your area that may be able to recycle the items below -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Suresh Choudhary 5/06/2019 5:22 AMHow small changes can have a global impact ... In the future, many of us will have instant information about our own behaviour at our fingertips. -

Suresh Choudhary 5/06/2019 5:21 AMSimple Ways To Reduce Waste In Your Home. Get to know the rules of recycling. Don't be intimidated by the complicated symbols and sorting rules. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
