    Energy Learn About Renewable Energy
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

After living in coal country and the land of pleasant living- it's become obvious that all realms suffer from fossil fuel industries, all realms demand huge amount of power, all realms are full of NIMBYs that put aesthetics above clean power, an ideal of "natural beauty" that is false- as certain communities enjoy minimally impacted natural settings it is at the sacrifice of millions of other communities that have destroyed their beautiful place in the word to supply the materials for power generation.  It is inequitable and unfair.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Jemima Clark's avatar
    Jemima Clark 9/28/2020 9:38 AM
I have always used tap water and refilled even my plastic water bottles. Group sports with my kids have always been a HUGE source of plastic water bottles and little leagues- baseball, softball, lacrosse, field hockey, ice sports, etc- should all be requiring refillable bottles and providing a safe refill option for players & participants.  Finding a water bottle I really like drinking out of has been my main barrier- I keep searching, and have found 2 I love and use all the time!

Weekends away make it tough to check in on time! But it is always nice to practice eco-friendly living even while away form home- pack a cooler, bring home recyclables, don't pack shopping bags, turn out lights & tv in the hotel, etc. Sustainable lifestyle is all the time- wherever you go!

How do you practice self care?

I meditate daily, exercise almost daily, read, journal and work on being the best I can be each day. Before pandemic i also treated my self to good salon care for my hair & got a pedicure seasonally! Those items have sort of been on hold!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Jemima Clark's avatar
    Jemima Clark 9/15/2020 5:58 AM
Since I live in an extremely OLD, inefficient house, I am planning to spend some money this fall on making the house a bit better insulated & warmer going into winter. So, the small return on the cold water will likely go back into the house!  Eventually, we would like a smaller, solar powered, more efficient home- our energy bills are ridiculous!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Simplicity Go For A Daily Walk Outside
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

    Jemima Clark's avatar
    Jemima Clark 9/13/2020 5:21 PM
I've known or a long time that movement is essential for my mind & body to function optimally. I am happiest when outdoors, in the woods, biking, hiking, or just enjoying a day at the beach! Sunshine is the BEST medicine!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Reminds me to focus o the positive, in this sea of negativity. Helps me remember what is worth fighting for and that sometime silence is extremely powerful.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Meditate
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

    Jemima Clark 9/08/2020 6:13 AM
I have been practicing meditation for a few years now,, but admittedly had let my practice falter over the past few months of quarantine. I decided to add meditation to my daily activities for this challenge as a way to add accountability to sit each day. I've been reflecting on patience, forgiveness and gratitude.

    Nature Explore My Area
How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

    Jemima Clark 9/08/2020 6:10 AM
We camped in Davis WV all weekend & explored many new trails. Being outside for 4 days in a row- with no power or running water makes your brain function differently- you see more, observe better, notice patterns and daily events that you miss being inside. Spending time outdoors is a must for my mental health- it reminds me how small I am, what really matters and how to breathe!
