REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Brianna Michelle Corbett 1/26/2021 11:58 AMNow that I am composting, I notice I compost mostly parts of produce that I normally don't eat (banana peels, apple cores, bell pepper seeds, avocado skin). This makes me wonder what I could actually use these parts for instead of throwing them away. Once the compost is ready, I will add it to my garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Brianna Michelle Corbett 1/26/2021 11:34 AMThis does not surprise me. Americans are extremely wasteful and especially with perishable food such as produce, it is easy for people to waste it. I get upset by people doing this and it is important to meal plan times to use this type of food. I would rather spend this money in investments or towards college instead, something that grows instead of gets thrown away.
