Support Local Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.

Core Values

We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.

    Food Plant an Herb Garden
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

I went through my garden today. I have sprouts of cilantro, chives, and parsley. I don't see any sprouts of chamomile yet. I trimmed back my rosemary and look forward to it growing again too. Today I got more cilantro and parsley seed as well as a variety of lettuce. I will start them inside and replant them in our backyard. I have found that the cilantro doesn't grow as well on the side of our house as it does in the back.  I have also thought about planting some in containers on our deck as well. We have rabbits who also LOVE cilantro and parsley and they go through quite a bit of it.

I ended up moving most of my edible plants to the deck because the rabbits and ground squirrels were having a feast.

    Simplicity Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

    Faith, Love, Joy.
I narrowed it down to these three things by thinking about what are the most important things in my life. Faith gives me hope to endure even the worst things. Love makes everything worth while. Finding Joy in life, even when things aren't idea is what makes life wonderful.

With the last couple years we have had, it can really be rough to find joy, but it's there if we remember to look for it.

What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

I can help by doing things myself and teaching my family and friends ways to be more sustainable! Being more aware of the items I purchase, the packaging, the origin. Planting a garden with more variety for my family.

Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

Our bees need our help! We actually have a bee hive so I find it very interesting to plant herbs and flowers that support them. We have also learned that if we provide medicinal herbs and plants for them to pollinate that also helps make their honey even healthier for us. We have many of the plants that support them in our garden and I look forward to planting some more for them in our herb garden!

One way I am practicing self care is by getting my physical done. It is over due and I am anxious to see the Dr. and to make sure all is well!

Long story, but my husband has been to see a lot of doctors recently, and he commented "these doctors want you to come, like once a year, for no reason!" I reminded him that that's what healthy people do......
