Brune's actions
Action Track: Building Resilience
Help Others
I will offer to help 6 person(s) who are in need each day.
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
ANYBAG PROJECT SINGLE USE PLASTIC COLLECTION
I will bring in collected single use plastics for aNY Bag Project to ISB to help re-purpose single use plastics into reusable bags and reduce plastic waste in my community.
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 6 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Advocate for More Food Options
I will advocate for local and/or organic food options at work or on campus.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 6 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Meet My Neighbors
I will meet 5 new neighbor(s) each day.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Water
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 4 minutes using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Get Involved in the Water Justice MovementWho is affected by polluted water or a lack of access to water in your region? How are they affected?
Brune De Vivie 2 3/15/2021 4:31 PMPeople with little money for water bills often end up living in apartments where the water supply is heavily polluted and contract microbial infections -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Brune De Vivie 2 3/15/2021 4:29 PMBecause NYC is an “almost-island” (excuse my Frenglish—that was a direct translation) we are very susceptible to flooding and rising water levels. For example with Hurricane sandy, between the rain and the sea, New York endured a ton of water damage (amongst other damages). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Brune De Vivie 2 3/15/2021 4:27 PMWe get able bags can be avoided completely for some veggies. Cucumbers, garlic, bell peppers and more are tough enough to be stored in a grocery bag (FABRIC grocery bags only) with no need for veggie bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Brune De Vivie 2 3/15/2021 4:24 PMOver fishing, and dumping trash in the oceans is affecting the quality of the water and the wildlife that plays a part in keeping it consumable. Air pollution affects rain and therefore the collected water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Brune De Vivie 2 3/15/2021 4:23 PMOld jeans can be turned into coasters. Finished jam containers (glass) can be made into hanging flower pots. Everything has a second use if you think about it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Brune De Vivie 2 3/15/2021 4:21 PMI like how easy this is, granted that reusable cups are a tricky subject as they are not always effective in keeping things warm. -
Brune De Vivie 2 3/15/2021 4:19 PMLast day! Excited to see the results!! -
Brune De Vivie 2 3/14/2021 9:59 PMHehe I like this. Were gonna beat the whole 8th grade! -
Brune De Vivie 2 3/14/2021 9:57 PMThis is my other email.I earn more points this way! Yay loopholes! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Brune De Vivie 2 3/14/2021 7:28 PMReusable water bottle are bulky and hard to carry around. It’s really at mater of convenience.
