Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided below and spend 180 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Reduce refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Meggie Devlin 10/04/2018 9:43 AMI found this to be the hardest challenge. I was only able to go two days before I gave in. It turns out I am addicted to sugar! I will keep working at this challenge because I do not want to be as reliant on processed sugars as I am. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Meggie Devlin 10/04/2018 9:41 AMMy campus gets its energy from the grid and contributes energy to the grid via solar power. Even solar power has its draw backs since the panels are made out of precious metals that must be mined. However, the pollution, wasted water, and habitat destruction that natural gas, coal, and oil produce is far more damaging to our ecosystems. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Meggie Devlin 10/04/2018 9:01 AMI think a major reason for our excessive meat consumption is due to our popular fast food culture and our tendency to waste food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Meggie Devlin 10/03/2018 11:19 AMTo do good, I need to make sure my food is sourced locally. They food that I purchase, however, will have to be consumed mindfully. Avoiding food waste is a key step to making good food choices. Wasting food a waste of resources, energy, and vital nutrients that someone else may enjoy. -
Meggie Devlin 10/03/2018 11:14 AMI'm surprised by how hard it is to avoid processed foods. Hopefully I will be able to kick the habit by the end of the challenge! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Meggie Devlin 10/02/2018 2:57 PMAbsolutely, I find that my mind is the most clear when I spend time outside rather than indoors. -
Meggie Devlin 10/01/2018 7:51 PMExcited to begin this journey!
