REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
Leigha Dick 4/20/2022 2:24 PMBeing outside is a good distraction from technology, social media, and many draining distractions for our brains. Being outside connects us back to the planet and personally, makes me feel more centered, organized, and calm on a mental level. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Visit A Local FarmHow do our current food growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and the future of Earth?
Leigha Dick 4/20/2022 2:22 PMGrowing and manufacturing food resources a hefty amount of resources. Water, fuel, and packaging are all natural resources that seem to become more limited by the day. To produce commercial goods, we consume so many resources that will becoming sparing in the future. Transporting food costs energy for refrigeration and the travel, which both output greenhouse gasses into our atmosphere. Emissions lead to global warming and a chain-reaction of negative effects. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Leigha Dick 4/20/2022 1:35 PMLiving in a condensed area limits the available area for a garden; however, the balcony and free surfaces in my home can be occupied by potted plants. It is very simple to install a hanging garden or to scatter your plants throughout your home, but still possible. I like feeling surrounding by the greenery and think that this way works very well for me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Join An Outdoor ProjectHow well do you know the area you stay in -- whether your hometown or your campus community? In what ways is a deep knowledge of your surroundings -- known as a 'sense of place' -- important to you?
Leigha Dick 4/19/2022 5:24 PMThroughout the spring semester, I participated in three different community beach cleanups. The cleanups were located across multiple beaches on Oahu. I like to know that the beaches I spend time on and are relied on by many creatures are healthy. It is unsettling to know that the coasts harbor so much debris that should not be there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Leigha Dick 4/19/2022 5:17 PMI have a lot more to compost than I thought. When I get food, I often never finish my plate and throw out a lot of my food. This has generated so much food waste that could be prevented. I plan to use my compost to fertilize my plants in and around my home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Leigha Dick 4/19/2022 5:13 PM1. Feeling content and confident in life (physical, mental, organization)
2. Actively working to reduce my environmental impacts on the planet
3. Maintain a positive outlook on society and my life. Mental health is an extremely important foundation to organizing a healthy lifestyle.
4. Be kind

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Leigha Dick 4/19/2022 4:05 PMMeat production uses a lot of water and creates lots of toxic manure that runs of into bodies of water. It also costs a lot to package and ship the meat, increasing the waste and greenhouse gas production. Not to mention, it requires so much money to operate all of these things on top of the negative outcomes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Leigha Dick 4/19/2022 4:02 PMEating the whole thing raw or finding recipes that use the entire food within the meal.
