Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

I will use the resource links provided below and spend 30 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.
Community
Join my Student Government or Local Group

Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 4 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.

Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 1 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Max Drobnyk 3/11/2021 3:47 PMI would say practicing gratitude can help get to a better world because you don't take as much for granted and you really think about the actions you take. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Max Drobnyk 3/11/2021 3:46 PMI would say eating more only affects you and no one else cares how much you eat unless you throw food away, and other people could be eating it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Max Drobnyk 3/11/2021 3:45 PMI can look on youtube for how to use every part of a carrot or every part of a broccoli stock. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Max Drobnyk 3/11/2021 3:43 PMThis doe not Suprise e because just from seeing my household I see that if the food does not get eaten after a couple of days it gets thrown out because it goes bad. I would rather use the money to donate to farmers to help them out and produce more food for us. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Food LifestyleMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Max Drobnyk 3/11/2021 3:41 PMI do not agree with this statement because I feel your well-being and health are much more important than the food you eat. Though the food is a factor in that statement going to the doctor plays a larger role.-
Green Dragons 3/11/2021 7:06 PMAn apple a day keeps the doctor away...

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Meet My Local FarmersWhen you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? How can knowing their food producers enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?
Max Drobnyk 3/11/2021 3:38 PMI would say the advantages of knowing where your food comes from is very beneficial because you know there is no other ingredients going in your good other than what is on the package. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Max Drobnyk 3/11/2021 3:37 PMI would carry things. If I did not have any way of doing it I would simply carry it and put in a little bit of work to save the environment. -
