Jaslyn's actions
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 5 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Community
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.

Jaslyn Dumlao 11/29/2020 8:47 PMTomorrow is the last day of our challenge and I just hope everyone is checking in when they can so we can earn as much points as possible -
Jaslyn Dumlao 11/29/2020 8:46 PMI had an incredibly long weekend from Thanksgiving to today. It was my niece's 1st birthday drive by and it included a lot of prep. Most of the decorations we had were all homemade, didn't waste money on unnecessary things. Today we unwrapped all her gifts and we saved all the bags, we are recycling the cardboard. We are just trying not to waste anything. When family came over, I made sure to have our recycling bin out so they could throw cans and stuff in there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Adjust the ThermostatYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Jaslyn Dumlao 11/25/2020 11:56 PMI feel like my household uses a lot of electricity. My dad is really into that tech stuff and we have a lot of things around the house. That leads to a high electricity bill. But we just installed solar panels this year and that is one step you could take to reduce electricity usage. You can unplug everything you don't use, use electricity only when you really need it, don't run it for too long either. -
Jaslyn Dumlao 11/25/2020 11:53 PMSince tomorrow is Thanksgiving, it's important to appreciate and be grateful for the things and people you have. Being thankful for your family, friends, the earth. They all take care of you and you have to take care of them. -
Jaslyn Dumlao 11/24/2020 10:27 PMEnd of the semester is approaching and I'm pretty stressed but for our eco challenge, I'm trying to get as much as I can done and try to earn us points to stay on top. -

Jaslyn Dumlao 11/23/2020 8:05 PMI seen Candace's posts about thrift shopping and omg I have grown to love it too. I feel like it is becoming more popular, and the "in styles" now are like things you find at thrift stores. Yes it's second hand clothes but honestly I love it and you save so much money and you help the environment by recycling and reusing. -
Jaslyn Dumlao 11/23/2020 8:02 PMI am feeling pretty confident for our group's EcoChallenge, I think we are all doing well as a team and that we are contributing and communicating very well. I'm learning a lot about changing my habits and it has became routine and I like it. There is a lot I didn't know you could do to contribute to having a better impact on the environment. -
Jaslyn Dumlao 11/22/2020 11:21 PMThe weekends are always more lazy to me, but it's been a fun eventful weekend. My brother proposed to his gf of 5 years and it was nice to feel happiness. I feel like we haven't been outside to enjoy the sunsets and our environment in a long time. I had a early thanksgiving dinner today with my cousins and we always take home leftovers. Instead of ziplock bags that we toss after, we had people bring reusable containers which are so much better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Jaslyn Dumlao 11/22/2020 11:18 PMWhen you walk, you notice the little things you never seen before. You notice the things and the people who surround your neighborhood or community. In high school I lived close to school and I would always walk to school and I made friends with this one lady I always seen every morning as I walked to school.
