Randy's actions
Simplicity
Support a Sharing Economy
I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, neighbors or classmates.
Simplicity
Disconnect from Email
I will disconnect from my email when not at work or school, using my personal time for endeavors that help me live out my values.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Waste
Tour A Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 60 minute(s) touring (virtually or in person) a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about our local waste and waste recovery streams.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Health
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics - including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl - and instead replace them with durable non-plastic options.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 27 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Simplicity
Buy Used Clothes
I will spend 15 minutes learning about the perils of fast fashion and will buy my clothes at second-hand stores when I shop.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm RoomHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?
Randy Erickson 4/14/2021 12:52 PMI've never been one for accumulating things (except guitars and amps), but it's amazing how much STUFF I've amassed anyway. When I had to move my mother-in-law's stuff about 10 years ago, I became much more conscious and determined to really consider whether a thing is an absolute need before acquiring it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Disconnect from EmailNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
Randy Erickson 4/14/2021 12:49 PMMaking time for contemplation, family, and personal hygiene has to be more important than attending immediately to every email that comes in. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Randy Erickson 4/12/2021 8:30 AMSecond hand/vintage clothing are ideal for me, being a vintage guy and all.
