Robert's actions
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Community
Talk To My Friends and Classmates
I will decide which social or environmental issue in my community is most important to me and tell 2 friends and/or classmates each day about the issue.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Community
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Robert Gailey 1/31/2022 12:02 PMIt is good to be back in an ecochallenge, this time not with students but with FSB colleagues! I look forward to tracking our success together! -
Robert Gailey 3/26/2021 8:02 PMI found I didn't have much overall trash on the day I decided to collect it all in one place. This is a result of several things. I already have begun to use permanent dishes and napkins instead of disposables, which has significantly reduced my trash load, and I was able to put several things in our recycle bin, which also reduces the trash that I leave. Finally, if we restarted the compost bin we used to have, I would have had even less trash! -
Robert Gailey 8/19/2020 8:53 AMI see we have several students who have signed up and joined the team. I hope we can get the rest of the class involved soon.
