Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

They don't differ much. They just seem longer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

The Ocean has always been One of my favorite things.

Preserving and and maintaining a healthy earth.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Choose Two-Sided Printing
Choosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?

    Nick Gardner 7/15/2020 4:31 PM
I have encouraged my family to switch to two sided printing.

Even though it looks like I have lots of tasks they are surprisingly easy to complete.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Nick Gardner's avatar
    Nick Gardner 7/14/2020 1:49 PM
The easiest thing I could do is turn out lights after i leave the room. I also learned that leave appliances plugged in even when you're not using them draws a lot of electricity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Less Screen Time
What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

    Nick Gardner's avatar
    Nick Gardner 7/13/2020 7:05 PM
It was not very hard for me to implement this challenge. Instead of getting on my phone I instead started Dune by Frank Herbert.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?

    Nick Gardner's avatar

My biggest single use item would be using paper plates. I use paper plates because it's easier then doing the dishes but today there wasn't much of a difference at all and I will continue to do this going forward.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Conserve Toilet Water
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    Nick Gardner's avatar

Because I'm in Florida it rains a lot. Using a rain barrel would help conserve water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Explore My Area
How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

Spending time in nature feels like a mini vacation and lets me come back to work with much more focus then before.
