Victoria's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Victoria Gralla 10/01/2018 9:00 PMBringing other reusable utensils such as a fork or a spoon would also cut down on wasteful plastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Victoria Gralla 10/01/2018 8:59 PMWriting down my gratitude ensures that even if I am having a bad day, I am reminded that there are reasons for me to continue working hard. When I'm in a happier, more grateful mindset, I find it easier to get through challenges whether they be school work or social issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Victoria Gralla 10/01/2018 8:56 PMEating meat has become tied into our culture and is also readily available in mass quantities all around the US. In other countries, meat is produced in lower rates and other options for eating are more prevalent. It's challenging to change America's stance on eating meat since much of US culture centers around freedom of choice and does not focus on longterm issues. By continuing to provide options that are both more eco friendly and healthy, there is a chance that those options could compete with the high quantity of meat eating. The government could also change how they regulate the ways in which animals are raised to be slaughtered. With tighter restrictions, farms would be forced to change their own output, forcing consumers to change their consumption of meat.
