Mike's actions
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 133 lbs of CO2 a month and 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 15-minute walk outside each day.

Mike Horton 4/27/2021 6:34 PMNice day for a walk but had so much stuff to do for another class. Was able to consume enough water and saved bottles! Hopefully, my vaccine tomorrow doesn't leave me dehydrated like other people I've heard had had issues with. Yeah for being covid compliant finally. -
Mike Horton 4/26/2021 7:57 PMVery busy Monday and happy that the coffee guy didn't bring a straw when delivering my $1 coffee. Was able to use my reusable when I got home. -
Mike Horton 4/24/2021 3:37 AMUp early in the morning hanging with friends. Avoided cocktail straws offered to me and used the same drink cup for tap water instead of the bottled water offered. -
Mike Horton 4/22/2021 1:12 PMMy solution to skipping the straw is to use a reusable one. Found a listing with a brush to scrub them clean of coffee. -
Mike Horton 4/19/2021 7:21 PMA beautiful overcast day perfect for a walk. -
Mike Horton 4/18/2021 3:33 PMNot using straws reminds me how clumsy I am however I was able to meet other eco challenges as a result such as washing clothes with cold water. -
Mike Horton 4/15/2021 1:53 PMTurning off the computer at night is a bit different from sleep settings. I have more bookmarks as a result but happy to save energy in the process. Another beautiful day in which I can cool by window breeze only. Yay! -
Mike Horton 4/14/2021 9:50 PMI drank 2 liters of water today and used only natural breeze to cool my office. Many goals hit today. :) -
Mike Horton 4/13/2021 1:07 PMToday was warm enough to open windows and use the natural lighting!
