Ryan's actions
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 3 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 45 minute(s) each day.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 45 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 133 lbs of CO2 a month and 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Ryan Jimenez 11/18/2019 7:43 AMI stopped using disposable cups and disposable silverware and got a glass water bottle a metal fork and spoon. I just wash them now instead of throw away the single use ones. I also use my own Tupperware containers when I'm taking food anywhere. I haven't gotten onto the paper bags when I go shopping though, simply because I don't go shopping much. But when I do, I typically buy enough to carry without a plastic bag. So my hands are on the list of replacing plastic bags I guess. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Ryan Jimenez 11/18/2019 7:38 AMIn the beginning of the semester I used to get about 5 hours of sleep most day, but now I'm actually trying to get more sleep I get about 7-8 hours most nights. It doesn't feel different at all honestly and I do lose time for doing other things I feel can be more beneficial, but I guess sleep is important. I anticipate that my sleeping pattern will probably go back to how it was, or maybe stay how it is now, but I doubt it'll switch in any significant way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Ryan Jimenez 11/18/2019 7:34 AMI go to the gym with my friends or my sister when I go. So it's always a good time spending with them. And we take it more competitively with our growth so it can be pretty motivational. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Ryan Jimenez 11/18/2019 7:31 AMI've taken different ways to get to class or back to my room than I used to so I'm getting more familiar with the campus. Its especially different from the drive on the bus though. On the bus I wouldn't see any real nature, but while walking out from class I can get some fresh air and sunlight. Its also a lot more peaceful walking than taking the bus.
