Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 4 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

David Kamenar 11/15/2018 12:54 PMAfter the first few micro changes in order to be more ecofriendly it is easy and comes second nature. I don't need plastic straws for any drink. When I need a straw I bought a few metal straws to use which can be reused all the time. I work at farmers markets and its so nice to be able to buy local food that in my opinion is better quality than huge companies food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
David Kamenar 11/06/2018 1:31 PMWhen I surf and look back at the beach I just think like, wow, I am living in Hawaii where so many things are unique only to this place. I think when you reflect on the place you're living, you think about all the little things in the environment that make it whole. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
David Kamenar 11/06/2018 1:21 PMI think the biggest thing is industry and how they have campaigns saying that meat, milk, and eggs are good for you and should be apart of your everyday diet when in reality they are not healthy. Also a lot of movies and the "american dream" to have meat with every meal and have eggs for breakfast and to drink milk. I think because of that "american dream" there is a lot of pushback towards veganism and vegetarianism. I think by having more restaurants and food stores that sell vegan meat substitutes and educate people that it is possible to do it, that could change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
David Kamenar 11/06/2018 1:14 PMI chose to eat vegetarian or vegan as much as I can every day. For me, it is hard to always eat at least vegetarian every day especially when ordering takeout. -
David Kamenar 11/06/2018 1:03 PMIt has been hard to remember to log every day but it has kept all the little things I do every day in my mind to be more environmentally conscious. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
David Kamenar 11/06/2018 12:58 PMI don't necessarily use single-use items every day but when I do, I use compostable food containers usually from Down To Earth food store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
