  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

Honestly, the fact that I can support local farmers and families that are working so hard for a living is what inspires me to support others. Plus I enjoy eating local foods that taste better!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Collect Rain Water
Trace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?

Well we get our water from our well versus public utilities. The runoff and water that flows from my house travels to York County watersheds and then ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.

I just used other parts of this challenge. Instead of being on my phone I have been out walking, or going to the barn to help care for the horses, or sit outside and read for my English class.

I am grateful for the gift of sunshine! Having the sun shine on my face on fall days where it is brisk is a great reminder of the beauty of nature. I am also thankful for the few birds that are making noise around me. It is such a beauty to see the creatures flit and flutter about.

I have really been enjoying spending more time out in nature and less on screen time and indoors.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

Spending more time out in nature for sure builds an attitude of gratitude, because experiencing it makes one see all that nature has to offer. If people would take more time in nature: hiking, biking, reading, sitting under a tree, they would have a deeper sense of gratitude.
