Sophie Kirkman 10/04/2018 8:00 PMI roasted my pumpkin (and its seeds) to prep for meals next week! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Eliminate Toxic PlasticsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Sophie Kirkman 10/03/2018 7:18 PMI sometimes use plastic vegetable bags, but I am trying to remember to take my own when I buy groceries.
I occasionally use a disposable coffee cup when I don’t have my reusable one in my bag. -
Sophie Kirkman 10/03/2018 7:10 PMI had a great trip to the farmers’ Market today to buy some veggies to prep meals for next week. Got a lovely big crook-neck pumpkin!
I also picked some mushrooms on Monday - yum! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Limit Social MediaSocial media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?
Sophie Kirkman 10/03/2018 7:06 PMI’m consciously choosing not to check Facebook or Instagram when I have free time, but rather to sit quietly, pray or talk to people around me. It is making me more aware of my surrounding. Wooo -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Sophie Kirkman 10/03/2018 7:04 PMWe get some electriciy from our new solar field!! Woohoo! But most from natural gas. I assume this is got through fracking, which devastates the landscape and habitats. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Sophie Kirkman 10/03/2018 7:03 PMSit outside to read and do work, reducing the need for lights. Also, set the thermostat to match the weather. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Sophie Kirkman 10/03/2018 7:02 PMI think North Americans eat so much meat because they can afford to, and because they believe that they are not eating a full meal without animal products. I think if people learn about the health benefits of a plant-based diet, and if they also get exposed to the many alternatives out there, they’d be more likely to eat less meat. -
Sophie Kirkman 10/02/2018 6:49 PMEnjoying the challenge of limiting social media! Haven’t used Facebook or Instagram yet!
