Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

Watch the film Creatures of Convenience on CBC Gem
Check out the film Creatures of Convenience on CBC Gem for FREE! This is a local film about the the impact our culture of convenience has on the environment. If you liked the film, consider attending our Earth Day event on Thursday, April 22: "In Conversation: Creatures of Convenience," a Q&A session with the film's producer and filmmaker, moderated by KPU instructor Dr. Paul Richard! To complete this action, you only have to watch the film - but we'd love to see you at the event as well! :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Hina Kuae 3/03/2021 4:26 PMVegetable bags. I'm trying to buy veggies with no vegetable bags. Instead I just place them in my shopping cart and take home like that -
Hina Kuae 3/03/2021 4:23 PMAwesome! We've saved UP TO 9 pounds of CO2 so far! Let's keep the hard work! Who's with me? 🙋♀️🙋-
Hina Kuae 3/08/2021 9:44 AMHi @Sharmin!
Great! One tip that I found very important (but sometimes we forget it) is to avoid unnecessary waste, especially food waste. Because when we waste food, all the energy needed to produce it (for instance, energy to transport, to refrigerate, and so on) is also wasted. But you can always make a self assessment of your CO2 emissions (carbon footprint calculation) to learn where you can improve. https://www.footprintcalculator.org/food1
What others ideas do you have? -
Sharmin Malik 3/03/2021 4:53 PMMe 🙋🏻♀️Any new tips on saving more of emissions?
