Alyssa Laffin 10/20/2020 7:15 PMToday for double sided printing I set up a date and time with my mom and schools principal for a meeting this Thursday I will be sure to update! -
Alyssa Laffin 10/15/2020 1:12 PMToday I did not use any reuse-able bags/ did not need them nor did any other individuals that I know. But, what I did to advocate and campaign was make a post similar to that for my paper challenge on social media regarding keeping reuse-able bags in dorms! As a college student with many similar college student friends I thought this post would reach out to many and inspire new ideas! I will be sure to check the stats and messages on it tommorow! -
Alyssa Laffin 10/15/2020 1:09 PMIn regards to my last post and contacting my mom, so far it has only been one day but she made her class aware of the expectations when printing or turning in assignments. Today we then decided to talk about putting me into contact with the principal of her school and explaining my message and possible movement. Today I was given his email and drafted out a message in which I plan to send by the end of the night! -
Alyssa Laffin 10/14/2020 9:28 PMToday, I decided to involve my mother in this challenge. She is a middle school teacher located near Milwaukee, and overall has a-lot of say as to handing out assignments, format, and printing. Today, I made her aware of the challenge I was participating in and talked to her about implementing policies in her classroom for now for double sided printing. After our discussion, she decided from now on when handing out assignments or collecting them by paper, she would require double sided printing. We then continued to talk about spreading this idea school wide and made a plan to apply this to future days of my challenge. -
Alyssa Laffin 10/14/2020 9:26 PMToday I both saved plastic bags and supported a business that is against single use plastic bags. Today, with my roommates of my apartment we went to Aldi to purchase groceries. Aldi at one point did not offer plastic bags and if a person did not have one was required to carry their items out or place it individually in their car. Though recently, they have been selling brown paper bags though for seven cents at checkout. This ideology has saved hundreds of plastic bags for years and continues to do so. Supporting businesses such as this helps create change. It is my hope other grocery chains take note of this process and soon begin to follow along. -
Alyssa Laffin 10/12/2020 9:08 PMToday, I helped a friend move in as I talked about in my prior post. She had carried a-lot of her dorm goods and home goods in smaller plastic bags along with garbage bag. As we unpacked somewhat of a garbage dump was made with all of the empty bags and boxes. It was after packing as we cleaned up that I rummaged through and managed to pull out an assortment of these single use bags. I from there made a 'bag of bags' which is just a collection of plastic bags shoved into one of the bags. I then proceeded to place these bags in their wash room cabinet and explained to them to reuse these bags and use them sparingly and at last resort only--throw them away. -
Alyssa Laffin 10/12/2020 9:05 PMIn order to help advocate for two sided printing, I decided to go to my friends new apartment which she just moved into. It was here that as she was setting up I helped set up her brand new printer. And on this printer I noticed the choice for double sided printing as an option aside the printer. I explained to my friend this option and proceeded to click it so that all future documents would already print double sided. -
Alyssa Laffin 10/08/2020 3:01 PMI only posted that I saved two bags but that is not exactly true. Jordan had a friend visit, and on his way out as I was working on an environmental assignment I was reminded of my task. And as he left I gave him a spare reusable bag and told him what to use it for and how to use it. Due to the fact I do not trace his bag use, I can only hope by giving him this bag I have saved dozens of possible single use plastic bags being used. -
Alyssa Laffin 10/08/2020 2:59 PMToday was a much more simple, independent, laid back day. No one within my apartment nor I had to complete any printing today. In addition I did not talk to anyone about assignments/ studying that may relate to printing. But, because I know i did not make a direct impact on myself or others, I decided to get the word out about printing on two sided paper. On my twitter page I shared a message along with a photograph/ screenshot of the choice of double sided printing. My message typed was :"Save a tree, its only one click away".
