    EcoChallenge Check in 1

The category I am most excited for is simplicity. I have spent the majority of the past year working towards a simple and intentional lifestyle and these actions are great opportunities for practice. I have selected the four following actions in this category:

    EAT MINDFULLY

I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

This will be a challenge for me, as I live with only my brother and my puppy, and I eat alone. I take up company in social media. I want to work towards enjoying my peace and my meals with myself.

    MEDITATE

I will meditate or create a moment of silence for (_20__) minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.

I have significant ADD which makes focusing on actionless task difficult. I find that when I am able to meditate and find peace in silence, I feel refreshed and I am able to focus deeper on my tasks that follow. I have committed to spending 20 minutes a day in silence and meditation. I will have to hold myself accountable for this task by creating a sort of event by laying out my yoga mat, finding a comfortable position, and closing my eyes to limit all distractions.

    BUY USED CLOTHES

I will spend (_60__) minutes learning about the perils of fast fashion and will buy my clothes at second-hand stores when I shop.

I have been wanting to explore sustainable fashion for a while now, as I have been following a few women on social media who promote large access – secondhand clothing distributers. I have worked to distance my self-image from what I am wearing, and I believe I am already beginning with a head start, as my brother works at a great local secondhand store.

    CORE VALUES

We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.

My top core values would be connection, enlightenment, inner peace, and productivity. These are four things that bring me the most joy in life, no matter my circumstances. The quarantine has brought me much closer to my family, as we have spent the year close together and without other friends. I have also developed an enriching and healthy relationship with my boyfriend this year. Enlightenment has stuck out to me this year as I have sought a place to put my faith. I have found spirituality practices as well as higher education after years away. Inner peace is the most influential aspect of my quality of life. Having dealt with some severe mental health challenge the past 5 years, I have finally found balance and tranquility in myself. Inner peace is something I protect and guard above all else because it is what has kept me stable enough to work towards other goals. Productivity is something I deeply struggle with and often feel inadequate in. Significant ADD causes me to feel lazy and inept when I am not charged by daily medication. I feel that I am at my best when I am able to complete my tasks, no matter how large or small they may be, and even minor accomplishments encourage me to strive to continuously do more.
