Alec's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
I will cook 2 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Alec Lehman 4/29/2020 8:36 AMThere is not always a place to refill my reusable bottle, which can be tempting to grab a plastic bottle; but I can make this a permanent habit by 1: Getting a bigger reusable bottle so I don't run out 2: plan ahead, and know if there will be an opportunity to fill my bottle before I go somewhere. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Alec Lehman 4/29/2020 8:34 AMMake daily goals for myself to check all of these R's off of my "list" when I accomplish each one daily. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Alec Lehman 4/29/2020 8:33 AMThis does not surprise me at all, my family has probably been guilty about this in the past. I would rather use this money for things that I could really use like textbooks, or rent. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Alec Lehman 4/29/2020 8:32 AMNext time I cook with vegetables I will utilize every part of the vegetable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Organic IngredientsMany people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?
Alec Lehman 4/29/2020 8:30 AMThat is true for right now, but we can show the world how to grow their own organic food, and make an economy out of it. -
Alec Lehman 4/29/2020 8:28 AMI have been feeling great about the things I have been doing, and I plan to stick with them.
