Waste
Launch a Recycling Program
I will start a recycling program at my workplace, dorm, or elsewhere on campus.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 20 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Simplicity

I will limit my social media use to once each day reducing my daily use by 5 minute(s)
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 20 minutes each day.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Launch a Recycling ProgramHow might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems differently?
Lindsey Lyons 10/14/2018 5:45 PMBig system problems can be overwhelming to address. You have to be creative to find solutions that work for all stakeholders and still create the positive outcome desired. Creative solutions are often more attractive and better accepted, which helps move the needed changes along. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Lindsey Lyons 10/12/2018 1:59 PMI am a coffee on the go gal. I know I need to do better at keeping a mug with me, but my long commute to work takes me by coffee drive throughs were BYO mugs are hard to use. I need to do better here!!! I wish there was more incentives and discounts at store to help keep me motivated. -
Lindsey Lyons 10/11/2018 4:14 AMForgot to Check-in yesterday, but still thoughtful on my commitments. -
Lindsey Lyons 10/09/2018 6:18 AMMy challenge is going great. Having a hard time with the personal waste audit-- it's a balance between home and work. I have enjoyed the challenges to eat better, and haven't really bought anything except food (even for my kids) since the challenge started. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Limit Social MediaSocial media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?
Lindsey Lyons 10/09/2018 6:17 AMI love my phone. However, we have gone device free in the evenings at home on school nights. It's been great. Meals and home, paired with no devices and a dog walk after dinner have really cleared the ming. Challenge is... It's getting dark so early. It's a lot to pack in after a long day at work. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Lindsey Lyons 10/09/2018 6:14 AMThis indian summer weather has been awesome. Bike to boats this weekend, yard work/leaf raking, walk with my kids, bonfire with friends.... It's been great to be outside and enjoy the leaves starting to change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Food LifestyleMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Lindsey Lyons 10/09/2018 6:13 AMIt's easiest for me to do this at breakfast. Fruit and nuts have been the option this week! -
Lindsey Lyons 10/04/2018 4:14 AMGathering ideas about single use plastic reduction at AASHE. Let’s work to build the BYO culture at Dickinson. What obstacles remain? -
Lindsey Lyons 10/04/2018 4:12 AMAt the AASHE conference picking up tons of good tips and tricks. Good vegetarian lunch too! -
Lindsey Lyons 10/02/2018 9:26 AMThis is fun! Very exciting to see Dickinsonians coming together in friendly competition! There are some wonderful people on this team. Thanks for giving it shot. We all have lots to learn. 2 days down! Keep checking in. Friends and colleague can still join. It isn't too late.
