  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Prevent Recycling Contamination
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

I have been recycling through my business often and now doing so in my personal life. It's difficult to separate out recycles as much as somewhere like Japan who has systems of various recycle numbered/colored bins literally everywhere. I feel all recycles from a home perspective get placed in one bin and shipped off to the recycle center.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health More Fruits and Veggies
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

    Daniel Maris's avatar
    Daniel Maris 7/17/2020 1:04 AM
Less meat is less methane in the air being spent and less unhealthy foods consumed. Meats can be hard on the body to digest as well as being unhealthy compared to fruits and vegetables nutrition wise and should be considered more in moderation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

The next step is to turn off the water every single time I brush my teeth as sometimes I don't think twice to do so, but can save quite a lot of water if it was consistent!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

Im not surprised, unfortunately that's a sad realization that are not using our food in smarter ways such as more donations and feeding the less fortunate. We should also be practicing smaller consumption sizes that lead to less waste of animal products

Leaving the thermostat off even in the cool night or hot day
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Drive Less
How has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

    Daniel Maris's avatar
    Daniel Maris 5/12/2020 5:09 PM
I have been driving less due to COVID-19, but also because I choose to walk around Downtown if I need something immediate. I am lucky to have public transportation very close to me and it works amazing if destinations make sense.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Daniel Maris's avatar
    Daniel Maris 5/12/2020 5:05 PM
I make sure to only use appliances and A/C when I need to, if I am not home I will make sure I shut everything off each week.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Daniel Maris's avatar
    Daniel Maris 5/12/2020 5:05 PM
I turn off the TV and other appliances, including my computer and laptop and disconnect the charger while not using it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Daniel Maris's avatar
    Daniel Maris 5/12/2020 5:04 PM
I can make sure to turn off any unused appliances and lights while away from home and before going to bed. Throughout the day, make sure whatever I am not using does not get left on
