REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
Emma Mathews 2/22/2022 8:11 AMIt is understood that spending time outdoors will enhance your brainpower by helping you pay more attention to the smaller thing in life. Helping you become more self-aware of what happens in your daily life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Emma Mathews 2/22/2022 8:06 AMWith the amount of sleep I have gotten currently I feel as if I need to make my schedule more constant with thee times I sleep. Since I try to take naps it messes up my schedule daily (especially on weekends when I work). In order to find what works best for me would be setting the same time everyday to wake up and to go to sleep. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Emma Mathews 2/15/2022 8:11 AMPeople in richer countries eat more meat than other people since meat is something that is driven by demand. But it affects our planet because it involves needing more land, more greenhouse gases, and CO2 into the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Emma Mathews 2/08/2022 8:28 AMThere are lots of other ways in order to reduce carbon emissions on a daily/ weekly basis. For example, consume seasonal products, limit eating meat, and only buy what you need in order to not waste extra resources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Emma Mathews 2/08/2022 8:22 AMPersonally when I was doing my last meal prep I tried to save everything I could from the tomatoes and other vegetables I was using. So I was dicing everything small enough so it would go into a soup as well as taking out some of the seeds (from the tomatoes) in order to plant a few in hopes they grow (since I don't have a green thumb). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Emma Mathews 2/08/2022 8:16 AMWith food sovereignty it brings forward the idea of transparent trade, as these people are guaranteed the "rights to use and manage lands, territories, waters, seeds, livestock and biodiversity" in order to have their produce each year. This is something that could/is used around in other countries.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Emma Mathews 2/08/2022 8:08 AMI am planning a trip to South Carolina for the summer and I was looking for alternatives to flying. I have come to the conclusion that either driving myself and my friends down or we all take a bus would be better on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Emma Mathews 2/08/2022 8:04 AMPracticing gratitude helps keep us motivated in our daily lives and understanding the things we need to change! Not about not just ourselves but everything around us as well! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Emma Mathews 2/08/2022 8:00 AMMy friends and I exercise together 3 times a week in order to bring us closer together while being healthy. We also sometimes when it's nice out we spend our time outside doing our workouts! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Choose a Carbon OffsetA round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?
Emma Mathews 2/08/2022 7:58 AMInstead of taking a plane ride I would take either a bus or a plane in order to reduce the number of flights taken a year
