Jennifer's actions
Transportation
Conduct Virtual Meetings
I will not travel for meetings and will instead conduct them virtually.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 20 minute(s) each day.
Health
Reduce refined sugar
I will keep track and reduce my consumption of refined sugars, including sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or organize car sharing with my neighbors or classmates to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
Collect Rain Water
I will create a rain garden or bioswale or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Energy
Online Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Jennifer Morano 11/30/2020 12:23 PMI joined the challenge to see how well I can do. to see what habits I can improve and to try and find other ways to not be so wasteful. I have chosen what I knew were the things that I struggle with and needed to work on. I think that this is a great way for everyone to take a look at new ways to save the environment and to become less wasteful and to become more eco friendly and aware.-
Janet Beach Davis 11/30/2020 3:28 PMDo do you think you did? Was it a challenge, or did you just need a little reminder to try something every day?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Jennifer Morano 11/30/2020 12:06 PMI Do not think that we have to much water concern in my area that I am aware of. However if we did I would say drought and pollution. We haven't had much rain and the plants/factories that we have in town are more then likely polluting the air. .-
Janet Beach Davis 11/30/2020 3:30 PMSometimes we aren’t aware of water issues until our water is really impacted, like in Flint. That’s why I had you find out where your water really comes from.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Jennifer Morano 11/29/2020 2:54 PMThe single-use items that I use regularly are sandwich bags and often at work disposable coffee cups. Instead i should buy the reusable sandwich bags that you can wash and reuse that is eco friendly. for work I could use a reusable cup and wash it out instead of using the paper cups.-
Janet Beach Davis 11/29/2020 4:29 PMGood solutions! You can get a really good coffee cup, maybe one that says ‘I saved the Earth today!’

Jennifer Morano 11/26/2020 6:12 PMI Jion the challeenge to see how far I could get in this activity. I thought that this would be a great way to keep track of daily habits that will have a positive impoact on the envrionment. The actions that I had choosen were things that i thought that I could improve in or things that I have nver tried or thought of and wanted to see if I could do it and to see if it was something that I could turn into a healthy lifestyle habit.-
Janet Beach Davis 11/26/2020 7:30 PMHow have you done so far?
-
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Jennifer Morano 11/26/2020 6:10 PMI would use more items that I could resue and that is recycable that once its get worn out or old I will be able to then recycle it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Collect Rain WaterTrace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?
Jennifer Morano 11/20/2020 7:01 AMwe have a drain spout gong into our flower bed and then going into a rain barrel. -
Jennifer Morano 11/19/2020 4:05 AMSo since I have been forgetting to log for the day at the end of the day I have been logging the next day. UGH the struggles with all the craziness going on at home.-
Janet Beach Davis 11/19/2020 7:09 PMWe do what we can. (But you get more points if you log in in the correct day. )

Jennifer Morano 11/16/2020 12:01 PMstruggling with remembering logging on to check in. but its progress. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Conduct Virtual MeetingsHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
Jennifer Morano 11/16/2020 11:59 AMThe meetings I have done online were not work related but for other personal reasons. They have done a great job considering the situation and being respectful and understanding. Covid unfortunately is taking a toll on everyone and causing a lot of stress on people. even though I honestly would prefer the one on one im OK with they online meetings.-
Janet Beach Davis 11/17/2020 9:08 AMThis has all gone on so long, moving back to our old habits will feel very strange.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Jennifer Morano 11/15/2020 5:31 PMI use reusable cups for water and coffee. and for my straws i use that metal or plastic reusable straws.-
Janet Beach Davis 11/16/2020 11:29 AMI think metal straws just keep everything colder. At least it seems so.
