For this week my onetime challenge was to host a viewing party and my daily tasks were to walk 30 minutes and to eat mindfully. the tasks i selected to do went over pretty well and were minor changes to my overall life style. Simply not looking at electronics while eating made me significantly more aware of two things. first that i was eating significantly more than i needed to eat. I noticed that by Friday that my portions that I was taking were significantly smaller because when not looking at a screen I wasn't as distracted and could actually tell when my body was full. I also noticed that I was producing significantly less waste. Instead of  mindlessly dumping my food scraps into the trash after each meal i was seeing how much food i was wasting and was able to adjust my portion sizes accordingly.  Going for daily walks was an easy challenge for the first week. Hosting the viewing party for a documentary was not as rewarding as i originally thought it was going to be. Since it was over zoom/Netflix party (due to covid concerns) it felt impersonal and as if no one was truly paying attention. That one time challenge i feel is something personal and would have gone over better if it was in person.  Overall i found myself remembering to do the tasks but forgetting to track them as i completed each task. I found myself on Sunday backlogging for all of the tasks i competed this week. Next week my goal is to being more on top of logging my daily tasks.
Next week I decided to try and pick some more challenging tasks. this upcoming week I selected buying from a farmers market, only buying things i need, and using a reusable mug. I have a problem with Dunkin ice coffee. I on average drink seven ice coffees from Dunkin each week which is not only financially unacceptable it is environmentally unsustainable. Switching to making my coffee at home will save so much money, and also will reduce the amount of single use plastic entering landfills. Only buying thins i need will also cut down  significantly on waste and help me save money in the process. This seems like a excellent subtle change to my daily life that i expect will have a positive impact on my life. My one time challenge for the upcoming week is cooking three meals from the farmers market. This challenge i don expect to be too difficult since im already cooking most of my meals so how much more difficult is it to switch out the produce i buy at giant for locally sourced produce.  I do not expect this weeks challenges to be difficult. I am hoping for this weeks challenges to create new habits to continue to use post eco-challenge.

Hi Charlotte! I see Lizzy has offered some resonance/feedback, which is great! I just want to add -- make sure you reference the "resources" you read as part of your challenges in future Journals, otherwise you'll have to revise + resubmit. See the Guide for Unit 2 for more, or happy to talk thru it!

I really enjoyed reading your reflection on week one of the eco-challenge! Eating mindfully is definitely something I might pick for next week because it seems like you got a lot out of it. I’m really glad you shared this insight because when thinking about it, eating while being distracted does distract you from savoring the taste and paying close attention to your body. Going on daily walks is so relaxing and I’m glad that you enjoyed that! It’s nice to get your mind off school work and life while going on walks and feeling connected with your surroundings and the present. I definitely feel you on forgetting to log the daily tasks! I did the same exact thing, but I think it’s getting easier as the days go by.

I’m excited to hear about how buying from the Farmer’s market goes! I wonder if it will also make you feel more energized since it is truly organic food that you will be buying. As with the reusable mug and your concern about your habits with buying Dunkin Donuts, I appreciate that you recognize your faults and are working to progress them. I hope that it all went well and helps your wallet out a bit!
