Day 30 of our Ecochallenge... even though we won't be logging our actions here daily, I plan to continue with my vegetarian,  organic, whole food healthy choices, reducing plastic waste, and reducing energy use.  I'm off to a good start, and grateful for this challenge in that process.

    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I want to become more savvy to repurpose or upcycle stuff.  It seems like the creative outlet would make me happy!

I have a couple of her books. She’s the kind of person who just tells it like it is and gets things done.

I created a presentation based on hours of research on environmental stewardship of Sugar Creek. The upshot is that environmental stewardship requires both continuity across multiple generations and immediate intergenerational cooperation now to achieve sustainability.  Psychological distance and uncertainty about climate change lend to a tragedy of the commons effect.  Becoming invested in local environmental stewardship helps to close that psychological gap.  Biophilia is a love of place. Who doesn't love and appreciate the beauty of natural resources such as Sugar Creek in BloNo?!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Susan Namboodiri's avatar
    Susan Namboodiri 4/26/2021 3:39 PM
Localized food systems benefit from wisdom of those who have farmed the land in that particular ecosystem.   People should have a say in the way food is grown and distributed.  Corporate giants like Monsanto seek to own the very seeds used to grow crops.  Because accessibility to quality foods grown in a healthy, sustainable manner will make or break the health of the local people, they should be sovereign over their food sources.

And eventually the memory of how to grow disappears, which makes the whole society dependent on the system for food instead of themselves.

My Under the Ground Blono vegan meal prep order was delivered this morning.   First thing I ate, the Gaba Gaba salad.  Loved the peanut dressing and radish.  Very generous portion.   Five stars!

Happy Earth Day, everyone!  It was a beautiful day in Blo-No.  A walk on the Trail was the perfect way to appreciate all of Earth's beauty.

This last few weeks of a semester are hectic for me.  I ordered some vegan meals prepped by Under the Ground BloNo.  I don't have time to shop and cook right now, but fortunately, this option exists!  Win/win.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Who is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

    Susan Namboodiri's avatar
    Susan Namboodiri 4/17/2021 7:41 PM
The elderly and children, as well as those experiencing poverty, are impacted most by environmental justice issues.  Access to nutritious foods, renewable energy options,  and healthcare exacerbate adverse effects of pollution, climate change, and global warming.
