REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
Isaac Nold 3/15/2019 3:23 AMSpending more time outside helps us to feel more connected to our environment and our community. Studies have shown that there is a correlation between the decreasing amount of time people spend outside and how connected they feel to the environment and the community they live in. A significant factor for this decrease is that many cities and other places have become less walker and biker friendly due to vehicle centric design. This disconnection from the environment and community could explain why there is an increasing amount of cases of depression in our country and others. We need to work towards helping people feel welcome in their community if we want to truly make progress in the world. -
Isaac Nold 11/30/2018 7:32 PMI have had an interesting week in regards to sustainability. I have been thinking a lot about how sustainability evolves in a society. And how we can nourish that evolution in our own society. -
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 10:35 AMMy challenge is going very well. I have been able to accomplish many new challenges this week, and maintain old ones. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Work from HomeIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 10:16 AMAs a student, I have a lot of opportunities to do my work from home instead of commuting to a library, or somewhere else I could do my work. When I do have to do my work at a location other than my home, I walk there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 10:05 AMI do not know what I will do with it, but I think this is one of the main examples I would refer to when discussing how sustainability saves us money, while also helping the environment. One thing I could do is keep track of the money I am saving, and then invest that money into renewable energy when I have saved enough. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 10:00 AMVermont only produces 40% of its own electricity. The rest of the state's power demands are supplied by Canada. Most of Vermont's electricity generation comes from renewable sources, such as hydroelectric power. The fact that Vermont does not even supply most of its own electricity shows that we need to be mindful of how much energy we are using.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 9:47 AMI compost all the food scraps that I have left over. I try not to waste much food so it does not amount to much, maybe 8 ounces of compost per day, if that. I like to think that still makes an impact. I use public composting which is transported to farms to be used instead of chemical fertilizer. This has a large impact on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 9:43 AMI would like to try to find other parts of my life where I am wasting water. For example, I could find a way to waste less water when washing the dishes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 9:41 AMI like to do this by going for walks with my family and friends. I also tend to go for hikes to spend more time in nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 6:53 AMBrattleboro's main source of water is the Pleasant Valley Reservoir, which is a surface water supply. Pleasant Valley Water Plant operates the supply of water and provides Brattleboro with one to one-point-five million gallons of water per day. Brattleboro also has back up wells, in case of drought.-
Isaac Nold 11/07/2018 10:02 AMI forgot to cite my source, here it is.
