Zachary's actions
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 5 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 120 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.
Waste
ANYBAG PROJECT SINGLE USE PLASTIC COLLECTION
I will bring in collected single use plastics for aNY Bag Project to ISB to help re-purpose single use plastics into reusable bags and reduce plastic waste in my community.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Water
Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
I will avoid wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink to heat up.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Zachary Pope 3/01/2021 4:39 PMIt's important because they're important! Most people don't realize it, but without them and them and the bees, there wouldn't be any plants. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Zachary Pope 3/01/2021 4:36 PMIt's kinda hard to make sure my family doesn't buy any plastic bottles because we usually go through 10 per week and that adds up to be a lot. We have recently been catching rainwater for fun, but now we're drinking it to save the turtles! I could start drinking more of it and use less plastic bottles and it could be a habit!
