Malcolm's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Food
Whole Food Lifestyle
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Community
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 2 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Participant Feed

Malcolm Roebuck 11/25/2019 9:01 AMMy challenge is going very well. I pay much more attention when taking plastic bags in stores and straws in restaurants. I feel more present when eating without distraction. This gives me a chance to to think about things that I do not usually think about. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Malcolm Roebuck 11/14/2019 11:27 AMI refuse to use a straw and lid when getting a drink from Stevenson dining hall. I also put my recyclables into the recycling bins. I can also reuse the cups or use my reusable water bottle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Food LifestyleMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Malcolm Roebuck 11/14/2019 11:25 AMThis is a very good quote. This reminds me of the old saying, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Malcolm Roebuck 11/06/2019 8:06 PMTaking away electronics from my eating has given me a chance to think about my day and what I still have to do. -
Malcolm Roebuck 11/05/2019 9:48 AMMy challenge is going pretty well. I got a reusable water bottle that I can fill up at drinking fountains so that I no longer use plastic water bottles.
