Daniel's actions
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
I will cook 2 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support a Sharing Economy
I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, neighbors or classmates.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 8/16/2021 10:22 PMI feel like time passes way slower and I have time to appreciate the little things that I would not if driving. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 8/16/2021 10:21 PMIt is true, a culture that spends most of their time indoors is most likely to be introverted, afraid of new things, afraid perhaps of new experiences. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 8/16/2021 10:19 PMI think that we can unplug all electronics that consume energy even if they are not completely turned on -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support a Sharing EconomyWhat are some of the barriers to sharing economies? What is your plan for supporting or creating one in your community?
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 5/25/2021 6:27 PMManaging your own finances is the biggest challenge. Setting aside certain percentage of my income with that specific goal. -
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 5/20/2021 8:48 PMit is going just fine, I need to make sure to create habits out of these daily challenges. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 5/20/2021 8:45 PMI regularly use plastic bags and plastic watere bottles. Plastic bags to be honest I dont know of a good substitution because paper bags loose their composure when any liquid is presents. I also use water bottles and could potentially substitute them with a hydroflask. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 5/20/2021 8:41 PMI CAN REDUCE WASTING WATER WHEN SHAVING OR WASHING MY HANDS. IT IS SOMETHING WE HAVE HEARD SINCE LITTLE KIDS BUT I HAVENT REALLY IMPLEMENTED THAT RECENTLY. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Use Reusable BottlesWhat are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?
Daniel Ruvalcaba Tapia 5/20/2021 8:40 PMWATER HELPS ME STAY CLEAN AND HEALTHY. WATER IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR MAINTAINING A PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE.
