Simplicity
Work-Life Balance
I will not work more than 8 hour days each day to practice work-life balance.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 10 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Join An Outdoor Project
I will join an outdoor restoration project in my community while observing best practices in my region for not spreading COVID-19.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Simplicity
Limit Social Media
I will limit my social media use to once each day reducing my daily use by 60 minute(s)
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Community
LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
I will spend 10 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 3 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.
Food
Visit A Local Farm
I will visit a nearby farm to pick my own fruits and veggies.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Alex Slusser 3/21/2022 6:42 AMReducing paper waste allows for not only a healthier environment, but a healthier mindset. Cluttering your mind with different spam mail can negatively affect you. The next step will be to eliminate paper as a whole and attempt to convert all my assignments to an online alternative. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Mulch the Base of Trees and PlantsWhere are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?
Alex Slusser 3/09/2022 5:31 PMBodies of water such as Lake Redman and the Susquehanna River are the most prominent bodies of water near where I live. Runoff can end up degrading the water quality of these bodies of water, affecting both humans and wildlife alike. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
Alex Slusser 3/09/2022 5:29 PMSpending time outside enhances your brainpower in a plethora of ways. My favorite way is through discovery. Going outside and learning about a new plant, animal, or star in the sky shows the beauty of the outdoors whilst learning. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Visit A Local FarmHow do our current food growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and the future of Earth?
Alex Slusser 3/09/2022 5:27 PMI believe our current growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and our Earth by adding chemicals and different things that we are unaware of in our bodies. Additionally there is something reflective about picking your own food or going to a local market. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Alex Slusser 3/09/2022 5:20 PMFor one of my volunteer projects, I plan to plant several trees which in turn will make the community more sustainable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCESHow is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?
Alex Slusser 3/09/2022 5:20 PMI believe that equality is crucial for making every member of the community feel like their voice is heard. Discrimination and prejudice leads to a toxic community in which no one wishes to be apart of. Therefore we should advocate for equality for these parties in order to build a strong, healthy community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Alex Slusser 3/02/2022 2:02 PMI struggle with pretty bad OCD so I like to practice self care by not allowing my self to think about anything else when I am taking a break or enjoying hobbies like videogames. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Join An Outdoor ProjectHow well do you know the area you stay in -- whether your hometown or your campus community? In what ways is a deep knowledge of your surroundings -- known as a 'sense of place' -- important to you?
Alex Slusser 3/02/2022 1:13 PMI am not the greatest with sense of direction but feel I have a generally good idea of the community I live in. I believe that understanding a 'sense of place' allows you to truly immerse yourself in a community by getting to know others on a deeper level. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
Alex Slusser 3/01/2022 12:06 PMI could research facilities or bodies of water near me. I believe the Susquehanna river would most likely contribute a large part. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Alex Slusser 3/01/2022 12:04 PMI often use plastic bags for groceries, which could be replaced with reusable bags.
