Kerry's actions
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Health
Practice Loving-Kindness Meditation
I will spend 15 minutes practicing Loving-Kindness Meditation to nurture love and compassion for myself and others.
Health
Joyful Movement
I will spend 15 minutes doing an activity where I'm both moving my body and enjoying myself.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for Earth
I will spend 5 minute(s) per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 5 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Community
SIGN UP TO VOTE
I will make sure I’m registered to vote. While I’m at it, I’ll sign up to help others register too!
Community
LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
I will spend 60 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Energy
Learn About Renewable Energy
I will spend 15 minutes learning more about renewable energy alternatives (i.e. solar, wind, biomass) in my region.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Kerry Stapf 4/08/2021 5:36 AMMany of the actions were things I already wanted to implement. This just gave me another motivation to start. It's going good so far. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Kerry Stapf 4/04/2021 6:41 AMOpt outside is a great way to get your exercise and explore, or just experience, nature. When it's warm out I enjoy walking on nature paths. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Learn About Renewable EnergyWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Kerry Stapf 4/04/2021 6:40 AMI want us to preserve the earth for generations, decades, centuries. I want it to be as beautiful, or more, as when I was here. To do that, sustainability is a must. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Kerry Stapf 4/04/2021 6:39 AMIf possible, starting to use more energy efficient everything will move us towards less carbon emissions. Car pooling is a great start, especially if you don't live on a city so public transport or walking isn't an option. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity SIGN UP TO VOTEWhy is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?
Kerry Stapf 4/04/2021 6:37 AMVoting let's your voice get heard. As society starts to value sustainability more, it will show in our votes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Kerry Stapf 4/04/2021 6:36 AMI think I could really benefit by looking into repairing more. I don't have a lot of experience using tools, but I'd like to extend the life of my things more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Kerry Stapf 3/31/2021 3:24 PMI'd like to get 7 to 7.5 hours each night, instead of just massive oversleeping on the weekends. I'm still working on putting down the book or turning off the TV at night at a decent time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Kerry Stapf 3/31/2021 3:23 PMListening to my body. If I hurt, I don't force myself to do something strenuous. If I'm hungry, I'll have a snack. When I'm stressed, I take time to be in a quiet place where I can relax. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Kerry Stapf 3/31/2021 3:10 PMKeeping an extra reusable one in my car might help. But honestly I'm already using my reusable one 99% of the time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Kerry Stapf 3/31/2021 3:08 PMIf the items are able to be carried in my hands, I do that. Otherwise I accept disposable bags, with the intent of using them as trash liners later on. This doesn't happen to me very often, as I keep my bags in my car, both in the front and back.
