Anya's actions
Transportation
Go by Bike
I will commute by bike 3 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or organize car sharing with my neighbors or classmates to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Water
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 5 minutes using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Anya Swanson 4/20/2021 9:35 AMI think meat is seen as a delicacy but the way we eat in the U.S. seems demeaning. We don't honor the lives of the animals, the living conditions and lives of the animals we eat live are so inhumane. There is this disconnect between what we eat and our values. It is not all a personal choice, obviously the industry is hard to take on. It is interesting to reflect on how we separate what we eat from the horror of how it was made and got to our plates. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Car ShareTake a moment to think of places you frequent often (school, work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Anya Swanson 4/20/2021 9:31 AMIt is hard to carpool during COVID but I have found some ways around it. When I carpool with co-workers we double mask and put the windows down. I also carpool with a peer to clinicals and we are both vaccinated, it is getting easier as more people get the shot!
