Hanna Travis 4/14/2021 8:00 PMToday was a bit harder than that of yesterday because I haven't slept. But! I was able to get most of my work in, one assignment of which speaking about BiPOC people being unfairly treated in society. So we're still here and working on what we need to do! -
Hanna Travis 4/14/2021 7:57 PMIt's going very well! I've tried to reduce my exhaust footprint by leaving all of my tasks that require driving to one day of the week. More money saved and less smog going into the air. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:53 AMI want to reflect on what I want my career to be. I want to be able to finally settle on what I would like to experience as a job within my life, especially in the case of what I'm going to spend a very long time doing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support Businesses Owned by People of ColorA recent Keen Independent Research Foundation study found that Minority Businesses Enterprises (MBEs) are more likely to have difficulties in receiving loans or city contracts. In what ways can you work to address systemic racism like that demonstrated in this study?
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:51 AMI can work to address systemic racism by calling out poor behavior/conduction of manners when I see it. Specifically in the case of receiving loans, I can't really do anything but contact my local BiPOC organization on the findings and petition for equity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:49 AMFood sovereignty addresses the complex transition from local to global by showing the power that food deserts can have on populations. -
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:48 AMIt's going well! I've been using a mason jar and a metal straw the entire time. Plus I've stopped supporting the purchase of things that aren't sustainably made! :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Advocate for More Food OptionsWhat changes would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods? How can your choices contribute to these changes?
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:48 AMI feel like the best way to help food insecure regions would to stop the construction of conglomerates like Walmart and Target. By switching to local, home grown markets, there can be more of a demand that ultimately allows prices to go down. Always support local businesses! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Learn About Renewable EnergyWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:45 AMI'm inspired to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues because the Earth is not an unlimited resource. There is always a depletion at some point, and, if we're not careful, we're going to run our own planet into the ground. By focusing on sustainable energy, ego becomes eco. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:44 AMMy top values are hard to pinpoint... I'd say honesty, frugality, and equity. Frugality in the sense of taking a look at your eco-footprint. Honesty and equity as being kind and just to those who you cross paths with. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint? What changes did you make or will you make?
Hanna Travis 4/12/2021 12:42 AMI think that I use the lights too much. I also think that I need to become more connected with the Earth and disconnect from my phone. I'm going to try to start going to sleep at a decent time so that I can focus on conservation of all types of energy!
