Julia's actions
Waste
PICK UP A BAG A TRASH
I will bring a bag on my walk and pick up trash along the way. Good place to start is local parks, neighborhood, or even curbside ditches (that's where it all collects.)
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Transportation
Go by Bike
I will commute by bike 5 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Julia Walker 4/20/2020 5:45 PMThis rings true to me, I think I have gained a strong connecting over the past few weeks with nature that has kept me emotionally in check. I think if everyone was outdoors as much as they are now because of quarantine, we'd see a cultural shift, we would be seeing the change environmentalist want to see. I hope by being outside more people will start to realize, and start changing! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Julia Walker 4/20/2020 5:41 PMMy transportation choices really affect my engagement with nature and my community. I love biking because it's slower than driving but faster then walking. I feel like it's the perfect speed to be able to engage and take in every aspect of the environment. I wish that I was able to bike year around, but the snow definitely stops me from doing that!
