Laura's actions
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Community
Talk To My Friends and Classmates
I will decide which social or environmental issue in my community is most important to me and tell 5 friends and/or classmates each day about the issue.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 40 minute(s) each day.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 2 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Laura Weidemann 4/11/2019 9:14 AMEating with distractions like the television causes me to eat more than I need and does not make me feel satiated. Eating mindfully helps me to focus on completely chewing food and digestion. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth More Fruits and VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Laura Weidemann 4/11/2019 9:10 AMEating a more plant-based diet reduces the greenhouse gas emissions and water expenditure of industrialized agriculture. We can all benefit from eating more plants. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Laura Weidemann 10/14/2018 7:09 PMUsing a reusable, stainless steel water bottle is important to me for reducing plastic waste and insuring less toxic chemicals are going into my system. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Laura Weidemann 10/12/2018 7:17 PMI really enjoy taking time to be grateful for the abundance in my life. Today I am grateful for learning ( I am a student), for music, and for the fall leaves.
