I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.

I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.

Abbie Winter 10/17/2018 6:55 AMCONGRATS Dickinson and Haverford on a successful challenge! Dickinson I'm impressed with your campus' dedication that gave you such a powerful lead, and Haverford you never stopped pushing us to put up a fight, we were running neck and neck until the very end!
Proud of us all, and don't forget to keep challenging yourselves here even though our challenge us over! -
Abbie Winter 10/15/2018 7:08 AMLAST DAY sad to see the Dickinson/Haverford challenge near the end as the competition has definitely fueled me to be more conscious in my daily actions, but I don't plan on stopping after today! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Abbie Winter 10/15/2018 7:07 AMFlooding is a regular problem in my area, as we are directly next to the Susquehanna River. It's unfortunate that our campus has so many impermeable surfaces that contribute to this flooding, but Bucknell has made strides to try to make up for this. Our campus has installed green roofs, bioswales, and more efficient drainage systems that allow for the rain water to fill the ground aquifers, instead of rushing straight into the river, which contributes to these intense floods. It's not perfect, but the school is definitely working within the system that we have in place here. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Abbie Winter 10/15/2018 7:02 AMWhen I travelled in Australia, it was common courtesy to "let it mellow if it's yellow". Since this area is so prone to drought, this practice isn't considered "gross" and nontraditional, like it is here. It's unfortunate that it takes hardships to adopt sustainable behaviors. A sustainable future in my region would be receptive to these slight lifestyle shifts that create better opportunities and conditions for all, even if those being affected negatively by the lack of action are not within my region's immediate scope. -
Abbie Winter 10/12/2018 5:50 AMWe're nearing the last stretch! Come on Bucknell keep it up! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support Businesses Owned by People of ColorA recent Keen Independent Research Foundation study found that Minority Businesses Enterprises (MBEs) are more likely to have difficulties in receiving loans or city contracts. In what ways can you work to address systemic racism like that demonstrated in this study?
Abbie Winter 10/12/2018 5:49 AMDiversity within every workplace, classroom, and decision-making authority is vitally important to fight disparities as relevant here. Therefore, by promoting the importance of diversity and diverse perspectives within my community, wherever this may be as my life progresses, I can fight these cases of systematic racism. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Abbie Winter 10/10/2018 7:11 AMI'm concerned most about the lack of urgency I see everyday– the fact that people can feel so indifferent and separate from the environmental disasters that are happening globally due to all of our actions scares me, because what is it going to take to make the unconcerned population see the tragedies that our way of life is causing? I'm most scared to see the kind of rock-bottom disaster that it's going to take to make some of these people wake up. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint? What changes did you make or will you make?
Abbie Winter 10/05/2018 7:22 AMMost of it is structural regarding my living, which I can't directly change granted my temporary living status in my rented home. Once I have the means and opportunity for a more long term living situation, I know that I will be able to make these structural changes to make my daily routine as energetically efficient as possible -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Abbie Winter 10/01/2018 6:57 AMMy decision to live waste free as much as I can in Lewisburg makes me realize how engrained consumer culture is on this campus, and how something as simple as eating a meal can be literally impossible without smart planning (and is usually impossible given the infrastructure of our food options in this region) demanding change on the societal level is the only way for the majority to live waste-free within their means
