    I make sure to turn off the water when I am doing things like applying shampoo/conditioner/soap and to only turn it on when I need to rinse.

      This is a great idea! Another water conservation idea is to collect some of that water into a bucket and use it elsewhere in your house: watering plants, grey water toilet flushing. There are lots of ways to use it and still keep your shower going.
