  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I always say if you dont have the material needed to carry such a big trip you can always bring your own wagon with wheels if there is no carts at the store or you can put them in your cart then transfer them into your car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? I had made two trip to my local Winco store this afternoon but I normally never accept bags because I bring my reusable bag from home so when they ask me I said no. And plus I only got four items which me and my mom split it .
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

I found out that there is only one recycle place in my neighborhood

Hi Takierah, that is so crazy to here! I wish there were more spots around your area! Maybe there might be something we can do about that in the future.

because there are few spots to recycle I think a great idea in the future would be that every household has a large container in front that anybody can drop in whether walking, and just like trashes if people dont want to take them to get recycled the trash recycle bin will take them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Practicing gratitude can keep me centered and motivated to work for a better world because I want others to experience these positive emotions as well. Gratitude inspires reflection and this ties into our actions, we view ourselves in the ways we interact with others or navigate the world and want to ensure that we are doing so to make the world better.

Hi Ashley, I totally agree with you! Practicing gratitude can change the way everyone thinks around the world, plus it's not a bad thing to be thankful for any and every thing!

Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. People feel and express gratitude in multiple ways which is great term we can all practice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I can start by disconnecting cables that are not being used and making sure lights that aren't needed are off as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Food Lifestyle
Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?

My thoughts are that this is sort of true. Being healthy means less doctor visits.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Walk Instead
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?

Yes this describes me. I often find myself very busy and having a car makes everything go faster and easier for me. I can always bike but I guess it depends on where I am going.

When I am in a rush I often forget my reusable bag so I carry all things big that can be carried and once in a while I buy a bag for the things I can't carry. I also tend to just use the cart and take all my things in it to my car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Go by Bike
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?

Driving every where affects my community by car pollution that later turns into global warming. I think everyone can agree that biking or walking is 10x better for the environment but it is a little harder to do.

Transportation choices affect the community because it provides new ideas and solutions. Reduces conflict and builds trust. Increases communication and creates openness in the community. Provides opportunities for residents to participate in the decision-making process. Overall Investments in sidewalks, bike lanes, trails, public transit, and other infrastructure that supports physical activity can result in improvements to individuals' health and decreased health care costs.
