Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I notice that I toss very little stuff in the compost (and trash) which makes me proud that I eat everything I cook and when I do compost, it will help the garden outside by turning into dirt! I know that compost is a way to recycle organic matter that would otherwise be thrown away into dirt/fertilizer for growing more food, or for other uses.

CONGRATS Dickinson and Haverford on a successful challenge! Dickinson I'm impressed with your campus' dedication that gave you such a powerful lead, and Haverford you never stopped pushing us to put up a fight, we were running neck and neck until the very end!
Proud of us all, and don't forget to keep challenging yourselves here even though our challenge us over!

    Nature Explore My Area
How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

Refusing to touch my phone and taking a hike outside allowed me to noitce much more things than I would usually if I was walking around campus with music in my ears or reading on my phone. In my hike, I was able to notice more, stop at my leisure, and simply enjoy the day. Although it did make me sad when the few birds and the few chipmunks that I passed by fled, I was still able to have a sense of peace and see myself from a distance. Although I see my self as a sort of intruder on this trail, it still helped ground where I was.

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

Several times I forgot to write these down, and sometimes I do. I find that when I write them down, and looking back on what made me feel thankful, I see so many things to be happy and grateful for. I feel like it helps to improve my spirit and gives me the extra push to do more and help others to have them be happy about something too!

LAST DAY sad to see the Dickinson/Haverford challenge near the end as the competition has definitely fueled me to be more conscious in my daily actions, but I don't plan on stopping after today!

    Water Eco-friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

Flooding is a regular problem in my area, as we are directly next to the Susquehanna River.  It's unfortunate that our campus has so many impermeable surfaces that contribute to this flooding, but Bucknell has made strides to try to make up for this. Our campus has installed green roofs, bioswales, and more efficient drainage systems that allow for the rain water to fill the ground aquifers, instead of rushing straight into the river, which contributes to these intense floods. It's not perfect, but the school is definitely working within the system that we have in place here.

What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

When I travelled in Australia, it was common courtesy to "let it mellow if it's yellow". Since this area is so prone to drought, this practice isn't considered "gross" and nontraditional, like it is here. It's unfortunate that it takes hardships to adopt sustainable behaviors. A sustainable future in my region would be receptive to these slight lifestyle shifts that create better opportunities and conditions for all, even if those being affected negatively by the lack of action are not within my region's immediate scope.

Trying not to use plastic straws has made me so aware of how many restaurants give drinks with straws automatically in them - this is definitely a question that should be implemented in all restaurants instead of it being a basic assumption.
